When we were given our animation brief i was a bti worried about how we were going to go about creating our animation due to the fact we didn’t have any animators in our group, i had a small understanding of adobe after effects but at the time it wasn’t really enough for what we needed. After disusing this with the group it was apparent that i was going to be the best person to do the animation even with my lack of experience, it would just mean that i had to learn the program(s) in more detail than i already did.
When it came to creating ideas for how we wanted our animation to be we all put forward a few ideas that we had and started to discus potential outcomes. When i heard the brief i had an idea pop in to my head right away, my idea was that we did some form of side scrolling animation showing of our entire city. The group seemed pretty happy with the suggestion however we needed a way /reason for our city to scroll, because the main form of transport within our city would be bikes we thought this could be the perfect method to get us through our city.
For the style of our city we decided that everyone would draw a different section of the city in a simple 2D line drawing that i would then take into Photoshop and turn into one much larger image that could then be used in our animation, we also need someone to draw a few different frames for the bike to allow me to animate it in adobe animate (a program i had never used before).
These are just a few of the scenes i got sent to put into our animation, the original plan was to keep our animation black and white however when i stated to to put it together with the bike over top i soon realised that it would result in the bike blending in the the buildings at times thus making it pretty hard to see the bike all of the time because of this i decided it would be best to add colour to the building and bike. This was defiantly a very time consuming process but i feel like it defiantly resulted in a better final outcome.
This is the full 15000 x 1080 pixel document that i coloured using a water colour style.I really like the style of the water colour because i went for a style that looked kind of messy and not staying within the lines. Next i had to colour each frame of the bike cycling.
These are the 3 different frames i coloured for the bike, as you can see in each frame the legs are in different positions along with the wheels when i then put these in to a sequence in adobe animate it will give the effect that the bike is moving.
I had never used adobe animate before so i had to teach myself how to create a simple animation through the use of YouTube and various different tutorials.
This the animation i cam up with for the cyclist, i like how it turned out as it is obvious that he is meant to moving forward. I could have improved this animation by including more frames as that would have resulted in a much smoother animation however i feel like that wasn’t required for this project.
Above is the final animation that i had created, i really like how it turned out especially as this was my first time properly using adobe animate and after effects. There is no sound on this version of the animation as it is going to be put in at a later date by another member of the group.
